Why El Bobar?
Building this demonstrative plant started in 2021 at the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) in Valdebebas, Madrid. However, some works were required at the treatment plant and in january of 2024 the LZWW pilot plant was moved to El Bobar WWTP, in Almería.
The treatment plant at El Bobar presents several important incentives. On one side, the high temperatures in Almería (an annual average of 19,13 +/- 6ºC) and the nutrient concentration values at this treatment plant output can promote the efficient operation of the process and contribute to the achievement of a database of great interest for this project. On the other, considering that agriculture is the dominant economic activity in Almería, the reused water obtained from the different project stages, with different nutrient load, may be used for fertilizer irrigation.
Technology compatibility
The configuration of El Bobar WWTP allows us to operate the AQU-ELAN® system independently of the AnMBR system. The high load process removes organic matter but not ammonium, hence this current WWTP tributary is the ideal stream to be introduced into the system.
Instant check
The performance and quality of the effluent from an AnMBR system and a high-load system can be compared on site.
Qualified staff
The WWTP is operated by qualified staff from AQUALIA that will ensure the proper functioning of the demo plant.
